La Dent de Jaman

A can’t-miss hike in the region, nestled between lake and mountains and not without reason. With its sweeping view over Lake Geneva and a 360° panorama across the Prealps, the Dent de Jaman is clearly one of those hikes you’ll want to do again and again.

Open from spring depending on snow cover, this short yet steady loop tops out at 1,875 m. It’s the perfect half‑day outing or even better, a sunset adventure after work.

Access and starting point

You can reach the starting point:

  • by car: park at Col de Jaman
  • by train: take the MOB from Montreux to Jaman station

    The route

The hike starts from Col de Jaman (1,512 m), accessible by car, or from Jaman station (1,743 m), easily reached via MOB train from Montreux.

We chose to start at the col, following the Montagne d'Amont path. Another more technical route skirts the Dent, but I don’t recommend it unless you’re sure‑footed: the rock can get slippery, especially after rain. Both paths merge before the final stretch.

Expect about 1–1½ hours to reach the summit, depending on your pace. The altitude gain is moderate, but the incline is constant, which keeps the ascent fairly strenuous.

Be careful though: the final section to the summit is more exposed, with a few stretches that might intimidate those prone to vertigo. You’ll feel most comfortable on narrow paths. But once you reach the top of the Dent de Jaman, the reward is instant: a panoramic view over Lake Geneva, the Dents du Midi, the Fribourg Prealps and on clear days, even the Mont Blanc.

For the descent, we retraced our steps to the base of the Dent, then looped back under the Jaman station trail.
